How to take part

What do I have to do?

As a RAJAR Panel member, you will be asked to keep a diary of your radio listening for a duration of 1 week per month.

The diary week runs from Monday to Sunday. In the week before your diary week begins we will send you an email or give you a call to remind you of the diary start date.

You will be required to record the station(s) you listened to, the time of day, where you were e.g. at home, at work or in the car, and what platform you were listening on e.g. AM/FM radio, DAB radio, smart speaker.

You can also record in the diary that you did not listen to the radio on any particular day.

We are only interested in live radio, so catch-ups, podcasts or streaming should not be part of your radio diary.

If you are not an avid radio listener, or even if you do not listen to the radio at all, we still want you to take part and complete a diary for us each month.

What happens if I am unable to complete one or more diaries?

We do appreciate that on occasion you may not be able to complete a diary or multiple diaries. In these cases, we would kindly ask that you inform us either in advance or soon after your diary week. This is to ensure that we continue to keep you on the panel and invite you to take part in subsequent weeks.

Should you fail to complete two diaries during the year and we do not hear from you, we reserve the right to remove you from the panel. We will contact you by email, phone or writing of our intension. If you are removed from the panel we will contact you in writing to confirm that you have been removed from the panel and that you will no longer be invited to complete future diaries.

If you have issues with your participation but wish to stay on the panel then please contact our panel helpdesk.

Where do I record my listening?

There are three different ways of recording your listening and which diary type you use depends on which option you chose when you agreed to join the panel. While the actual task is very similar across the different options you can only complete your diary in one form (you cannot switch from filling in on a computer to filling in on a mobile for example)

Completing an Online Diary

If you have chosen to complete an Online Diary, this can only be done using a desktop or laptop computer. You will not be able to use a smartphone or tablet.

Prior to your diary week, you will receive an email letting you know the start and end date of your diary.  The email will include a link to the Online Diary and a unique 4-digit PIN number.

The first time you go onto this website you will be asked to join as a “New User”. You will be able to register your diary by entering your postcode and the unique 4-digit PIN provided in your email invitation.

Once registered, you will be able to start entering your radio listening. On subsequent visits to the Online Diary you will need to click on the “Returning User” option to allow you to enter without re-registering.

If you have any issues using the Online Diary you can always call or email the RAJAR Panel Helpdesk or look at the Frequently Asked Questions within the Online Diary website.

Completing a Mobile Diary

If you have chosen to complete a mobile diary, this can only be done using a smartphone or tablet using the Radio Diary app which is available through the App Store and Google Play.  You will not be able to use a laptop or desktop.

Prior to your diary week, you will receive an email letting you know the start and end date of your diary.  This email will include a link to the App Store and Google Play and a 4-digit PIN number.

You will need to download the app to your phone or tablet.  The first time you open the app you need to click on ‘Set up a new diary’ from the drop-down menu.  Here you will be able to register your diary by entering your postcode and the 4-digit PIN provided in your email invitation.

Once registered you can start entering your radio listening.  On subsequent visits to the mobile diary you will need to click on ‘Sign in’ from the drop-down menu.

To find out how to use the diary app, you can click on the “Try a Demo” from the drop-down menu on the app. If you have any issues using the Mobile Diary you can always call or email the RAJAR Panel Helpdesk.
